Surf Camp FAQ

ALL SURF CAMPS FAQ

What are EPIC Surf Camps all about?
EPIC Surf Camps exist to help young people grow in their relationship with Christ.  We do this using the sport of surfing as a vehicle.  Our camps allow us to encourage kids, youth, and young adults in their faith while enjoying all the great things surfing has to offer.  No matter where you are with Christ, our time together will help you know WHAT you believe, WHY you believe it, and WHO we believe in!

Is EPIC associated with a specific church or denomination?
EPIC is a group of believers from different churches who love surfers and want them to hear the Gospel.  We are partnered with several Jax Beach Area churches, and kids from many faith backgrounds are involved in our ministries.

Do I need to know how to surf?
Nope!  We are here for all levels and abilities.  You should, however, have adequate swimming skills and be in particularly good physical health.

Do I need to bring a surfboard?
No.  You can bring yours, if you have one, but for safety reasons, we prefer campers to be on our equipment.  We use Dolsey soft-top surfboards.  They are great for learning, and are very forgiving when it comes to wipe-outs.

What do you do for safety?
We take safety very seriously in our camps.  We have lifeguard certified Directors monitoring all sessions.  The Jax Beach Ocean Lifeguards are also at their posts at 10AM each morning.  We use soft-top surfboards to minimize impacts.  We provide comprehensive safety instruction during "classroom" each morning, and our certified instructors are encouraged to immediately identify and resolve any safety concerns.

What if camp is cancelled due to weather?
If there is a chance to surf at least 1.5 hours during the 9a-12p time, we'll have the kids at the EPIC House and go to -or- return from the beach. We will post a notice by 8:30am on the website if we are going to cancel. We guarantee to host at least three days of camp or we will refund your money. We have only cancelled twice in 7 YEARS...God is good!!

What sort of payment do you accept?
We accept credit cards and checks via PayPal through online registration.  Money Orders and cash are accepted, but manual registrations are added when received.

Do you have a multi-child or multi-camp discount?
No.  However, you are welcome to apply for a scholarship.  We want your kids in camp, and we do not want finances to keep one sibling home!

My family cannot afford the cost of camp, do you have a scholarship program?
Yes. Please contact the Camp Director for more details.  We will let you know ASAP if you have been approved.

DAY CAMP FAQ

When should I arrive and depart from camp?
Day Camps:  Daily schedule 9AM-Noon; Monday, arrive by 8:30 if possible, to get checked in.

What should we bring to the day surf camps?
A beach towel, surf trunks/bathing suit (girls - a modest suit is mandatory.  Use discretion.  Lots of girls suits that are appropriate for surfing are available at surf shops).  And that's it!  We'll take care of the rest!
